Library Insights Summit

Library Insights Summit

Foreword Magazine is pleased to present an opportunity for publishers to engage with librarian innovators during a day-long, pre-ALA event focused on recasting the challenges facing the industry as opportunities. Librarians who are particularly focused on building inclusive communities will serve as special guests, and their guidance will provide a template for publishers to work more successfully with libraries across North America.

9-9:45 am OPENING KEYNOTE

Meeting the Evolving Needs of Libraries: What Do Librarians Need from Publishers in Today’s Post-Pandemic World?
Featuring Sari Feldman, past president of ALA

10-10:45 am WHAT A LIBRARIAN NEEDS

A panel of acquisition librarians from a variety of different sized branches discuss their common joys and challenges, including what makes a compelling project in particular genres, their book selection process, seasonal considerations, how reviews and awards play into decisions, and suggestions for publishers on best practices to help them choose best books. With Jeremy Kitchen, Branch Manager, Chicago Public Library, Richard J. Daley Branch; Jessica Trotter, Collection Development Specialist, Capital Area District Libraries; and other panelists TBA

11-11:45 am BOOK BANS

Record numbers of titles were challenged in 2022 and the immediate future doesn’t look much different. How are librarians and libraries coping with book banning efforts? How can publishers support their counter-offensives?  As a publisher, how can you help librarians as advocates for free and open access to books? A panel of librarians share their challenges and process ideas with the audience.
